On Monday, May 18, Mayor Bowser released her budget proposal for the upcoming 2021 fiscal year and started off the months-long budget process that is the most important work we as policymakers engage in every year.

Crucial to the budget is public engagement. The Council has modified our normal public procedures to maintain social distancing and protect the health and safety of all participants. The public can provide testimony to the Committee on Education by calling 202.430.5720 and leaving a three-minute voicemail or emailing testimony to astrange@dccouncil.us by 5pm on June 23, 2020. Testimony received 48 hours before the hearing dates below for relevant agencies will be sent to all Councilmembers and the agency representatives. More information about the entire Council budget process can be found here.

  • June 4 - 3:00 pm - Office of the State Superintendent of Education

  • June 11 - 9:00 am - Deputy Mayor for Education & D.C. Public Schools

  • June 25 - 2:30 pm - Committee on Education Budget Markup

Hearings will be broadcast on Channel 13 and live-streamed on the D.C. Council’s and Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, & Entertainment’s websites.
