A high-quality public education system and an innovative and thriving public library system create college-ready students and a prepared workforce. The Committee on Education strives to strengthen the trust that parents and the community have put into our public officials and education system. We want to strike a balance between the necessary oversight and the needed support of stakeholders and local education agencies to ensure the success and well-being of our students, teachers and administrators.
Doing its work effectively requires that the Committee identify and address influences over learning and behavior inside and outside of the classroom. This means maintaining a high level of accountability and transparency; promoting equity; ensuring quality resources and facilities; celebrating the victories of administrators, teachers, and students; and encouraging a high level of family and public engagement. The Committee also seeks to identify and address community issues that affect student behavior, attendance, performance, and general well-being.
